The Philippines is one of the countries that usually use long names for their government agencies. For instance, the PAGASA or the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration. Phew, that is really long, huh? PAGASA is a government agency of the Republic of the Philippines that handles and studies the country's climate changes. The agency is the pioneer of excellence in operational hydrology, astronomy, meteorology, and other related sciences. It is the sole agency in the Philippines that has capabilities on forecasting, monsoons, typhoons, etc.

Among the first-hand mission of Philippines's PAGASA is to give property and protection of the Filipinos' life against natural calamities, which could be due to inevitable instances of high seas, drought, floods, and typhoons. It also aims to use its scientific know-hows and resources to maintain the well being, safety, security, and improvement on the life quality of all people of the Philippines and its environment. So, when it comes to weather disturbances and daily climate changes in the Philippines, you now know which government agency to turn to.

A few years ago, I was in the Philippines to visit a Filipina friend. She lived in Valenzuela city. I stayed at her house for a few weeks and that was during the first two weeks of June. Unfortunately, that was the start of the rainy season in the country, so I wasn't able to enjoy the outdoor promises of the city. I wasn't that happy about the weather updates brought by PAGASA, since I think it is very unreliable and its weather announcements are really late. Further improvements on its public services should be considered by the agency.

A long drought has been forecasted this year in Spain. We just don't know what any other global warming has in store for us, you know. But this drought is seen due to the depleted water reserves of this beautiful country. Yes, their water reserves are down. Compared to the prior years, that is. Some say it's due to the effects of global warming, but others are pointing the finger at the people themselves! They're all trying to make the people of Spain conserve the water coming from their taps at home and at their offices.

When there's storm, there's not just an outpour of rain but the gust of wind. In extreme occurrences it can puff and huff and blow your house down just as the wolf attacked the three little pigs. So next time, it might be better to explore and take curious notes about the wind's moves and grooves.
Even without an advance gadget for prediction and monitoring, you can create one of your own in able to observe the wind. Take it as one of your pet projects like a child. Hopefully, may you imbibe the zeal of an inquisitive learner. you can create your own anemometer.
To make your own anemometer, you'll need to prepare the following materials: 5 (3-ounce) paper Dixie cups; 2 straight plastic soda straws; a pin; scissors; paper punch; small stapler; and a sharp pencil complete with an eraser. Now that you'ready, the nest steps are to follow the procedures in making an anemometer.
First, use the paper punch to draw a hole in each of the four Dixie cups. It should measure about a half inch blow the edge or rim. Then on the fifth cup, draw four holes with equal spaces measuring a quarter below the edge or rim. Next, at the bottom center , punch another hole.
Using the straw, push it through the hole of one of the four cups. Staple the folded end of the straw to the side of the cup across from the hole. Repeat the same procedure to the second straw and one-hole cup.
This time, through two opposite holes, in the 4-hole cup, slide one cup and the straw assembly. You'll use another 1-hole cup to push it onto the rim of the straw pushed through the 4-hole cup. Make sure that cup faces in opposite direction from the first cup as soon as you staple the bended straw to the 1-hole cup.
Place the four cups in a position wherein their open ends face in the same direction either clockwise or counterclockwise around the center cup. Use the straight pin to push it through the two straws where they'll meet. Next, at the bottom hole in the center cup push the pencil through using the eraser end. Then, as far as it will go, push the pin into the end of the pencil eraser. And voila, you can now use your anenometer!
The anenometer will help you measure velocity by determining the RPM or number of revolutions per minute. You'll also have to calculate the circumference by moving paper cups (in feet). To have an approximate value of velocity, multiply the RPM with circumference. Although results are not not rigidly exact, this way you'll have an idea at least. Who knows, this may stir you up to be a scientist!

You are mistaken if you think that this one pesters your bright day. Weather Bug is a weather network. Its staff work day and night. The network has 8,000 stations that track atmospheric movements. Its public service is even enhanced by the thousand cameras placed at public centers and facilities, television networks, and schools all over United States. Compared to other networks, Weather Bug forecasts live reports not hourly but every single moment.
According to statistics, Weather Bug already has approximately 20 million visitors. The local government and departments also rely on its reports. Since it placed cameras on schools, about 8,000 academic institutions benefit from the reports because they provide real time information in connection to science, geography, and mathematics. Finally, its forecasts are being broadcasted all over the country via television, radio, and wireless fidelity system by almost 100 stations such as FOX, NBC, and ABC.
From the time the Weather Bug website was introduced, it became among the ten most visited websites. Its fourteen years of successful weather forecasting has already helped thousands of people who depend on the network's reports. The first recipients of the professional meteorological skills were students because the network pioneered a program that helps students learn mathematical, scientific, and geographical technological approaches to weather.

There is one enjoyable and convenient way of learning about meteorology, and that is by visiting the website of the weather network. For example, you are a resident of Australia, then I suggest that you visit www.bom.gov.au. I guarantee you that everything you need to know about meteorology is found in there.
Although Australia is the world's smallest continent, it is still hard to monitor the weather conditions in each and every corner of the land down under. The first time I visited the website, I headed for the educational part. I clicked on the icon about learning meteorology, and based on what I read, the information in those pages are all accurate. The website also provides special lessons for specific type of audience., which means students, professors, weathermen, and even plain housewives will definitely find the data very easy to understand. Although meteorology is a complex subject, the Australian Government Bureau Of Meteorology (ABBOM) managed to concisely and clearly explain the important terms.
If you are looking for reliable reference like journals, magazines, or even a weather library, AGBOM has them all. What is best about AGBOM is that it is not confined to Australian weather conditions alone, but also tackles global issues, thus we are given a wider perspective about the natural atmospheric phenomena going on above and around us.

Monitoring the national weather is a very serious job. Just imagine running those computers and radars placed in each and every crucial corners of the state just to have the most accurate, up-to-date weather condition reports so you can confidently advise the people when to stay calm and to brace themselves for a weather disturbance. This is very true especially in South Africa. If you are not familiar with the place, it is located at the bottom part of Africa, the boundaries of which are Botswana and the Republic of Namibia. Although the job is tough, a weather station actually took the challenge.
I am talking of South African meteorological services. Its website presents real-time weather conditions. What I liked about the network is that it reports the weather condition of each and every provinces in South Africa. That way, people have an idea whether it safe to travel to Africa. Also, the website has a portion dedicated to forums, as well as discussions on the current weather. Even the dams and their levels are monitored by the network. But, if you will notice, the reports and research information gathered by the people behind the network are not for free or at least, subscribers must register first to have unlimited access to the necessary information. In addition to that, the network also does reports on aviation advisory. Since Africa is a leading fishing destination, South Africa weather services will be a very trustworthy companion if you are looking for factual marine reports.

In America alone, there have been hundreds of forest fire cases. If we just try to assess the instances, there was no definite solution to prevent the spread of fire, but by evacuating the area and save as much property as the residents and fire fighters could. Just what is the major cause of forest fires? Extreme hot weather, of course.
Nobody can tell just when a forest fire might occur. All we could do is to monitor the temperature. We can but assess whether the temperature will be enough to trigger a fire. This often happens in urban heat islands or inhabited forest areas where the temperature seems to rise in a very unusual pattern. The frequent forest fires prompted fire departments to coordinate with weather bureaus so they will have enough information which they could use in predicting fires.
When temperature begins to rise, RAWS begins its operations. They are tasked to monitor the wind direction, temperature, and quality of the air. The information they gather are then sent to the fire stations. This is a very clever idea in predicting fires. Here, we can clearly see the relationship between weather and fire. It is not enough that we pamper ourselves on hot season. There are destructive manifestations also that are brought about natural weather conditions.

Every morning, when I wake up, I look outside the window and read the sky. Actually, I was just looking for thin clouds and bright sunshine. If those did not appear in my neighborhood, then I am already convinced that the day will not be a wonderful one. I bring my umbrella with me, although that is very inconvenient, and I start checking for the weather forecast for that day.
Is this some kind of paranoia? I mean, to always watch over the weather of the day. I have observed that few people engage in weather observation. But, in my kind of work, I felt it really wise to keep track of the weather. Just last week, while I was at the Royal Canadian Pacific, a passenger asked the operator whether we will be expecting rain showers in Ottawa. The operator having nothing for an answer, just swayed his head. With my notebook, I logged on to www.intellicast.com. The website is a reliable source of up-to-date news and forecasts. After a while, I have already downloaded the forecast, and I happily told my co-passenger that Ottawa will have a fair weather that day.
Intellicast is not just a weather network. I also refer to its daily news whenever I go for hiking or golf. I just find the website helpful to everyone - businessmen, travelers, students, plain housewives, and even kids. The site is very easy to access and gives away free newsletters to registered subscribers. On the other hand, Intellicast is also linked to other weather websites, so I get to compare weather forecasts from other sites simultaneously. No wonder, Intellicast is among the largest weather networks on the world wide web.

There are quite few weather forecasters that can be accessed using the Internet. At the same time, there are few weather networks that reports forecasts through mobile phones. But, then again, weather forecasts are merely guides to our daily activities. I look at them as one of the essential factors that affect my travels. It has been my habit to consult www.weathernetwork.com for a more accurate forecast.
By the way, I am sure not all of you are aware of it, but the site does not only focus on weather. The first time I learned of it, I thought the site to be no different than other sites. But, I was mistaken. The first page that popped up in the screen immediately caught my interest. It was only there that I have seen links to gardening, travel, environment, and health. To my amazement, it was only through the Weathernetwork that I have realized of the importance of weather in our everyday lives. At once, I clicked on the health section, and I was made to read an article about the role cold weather plays with the rapid growth of the bird flu virus. Then, I tried the travel section, and I was made to choose among the beautiful beaches where, as the report told me, I could enjoy bright sunshine. Aside from providing me the current weather reports from all parts of the world, Weathernetwork also assured me of accurate monitoring of the recommended activities like stargazing, skiing, and game fishing in different places. There are many other links that the site proved to have been affected by weather. Really, Weathernetwork looked beneath the surface of weather.

If you are exactly not in the mood for tuning into the news networks on television for your daily dose of weather report, then look around the house for your solution. Find it already? I am talking about your own personal computer.
I have recently discovered an internet weather network that is a perfect alternative for those tiring boob tube news. Just key in www.wunderground.com, and lo and behold! It's Weather Underground Forecast. You now have access to the weather forecast AND other global information like temperature, heat index, humidity, and even maps! You can say that this website is like a localized CNN, primarily because it covers already the many countries and regions across the world. You can just click on a particular country and then get instant essentials in the field of geography and weather.
Another thing that simply amazes me in this small-sized network is the weather report per se. On the main page, there's the map display together with the current weather and climate indicators. There's also the summary, which takes you around the world in a few minutes with the important and major details on weather happenings in some continents and nations.

A weather network may either refer to the instruments and stations used for gathering weather data or it could mean the news-gathering networks specializing in weather news. The information from the latter is usually secondary which they get from either the weather bureau or other weather forecasting institutions. Weather news networks usually cover daily weather patterns for specific geographical locations. There are interactive websites provided by weather news networks for updated weather bulletins. Weather networks are also sometimes the sources of other news networks for reliable and up to date information.
