The instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure is the barometer. It measures the atmospheric pressure through water, air, or mercury in the gadget itself. It is used in weather prediction by determining fair weather from high air pressure or low pressure to determine storms. Short term forecasts are made when observing the wind.
How a barometer works
Pressure is indicated by the barometer's dial, expressed in inches or the inches of mercury. Dial barometers use an air pressure sensor that applies a limited range of sensitivity. Typically, the range covers between 3000 and 4000 feet. The air placing pressure on the mercury makes it go up the barometer’s glass. On the earth’s surface, air pressure goes up to about 30 inches.
Types of barometers used in weather monitoring
Aneroid barometers are made of beryllium and copper alloy. Minimal air pressure changes easily to make the cell expand or contract. The movements are amplified in the aneroid barometer’s face. The needle indicates the measurement that characterizes the change. Falling barometers mean precipitation is occurring while rising barometers indicate fair weather.
Barometers are easy ways to understand the weather. Having one in your home will allow you to make plans for the future or do the gardening accordingly. Many weather stations use barometers to predict major events such as storms or strong winds. There are many barometer devices available in major weather stores. The basic mercury barometer is typically displayed in science laboratories. You could even find one around public buildings or universities.

Aside from being essential in many activities such as agriculture and fishing, weather monitoring is a highly educational activity. It’s also valuable in knowing how to prepare for floods, hurricanes, typhoons, or other natural disasters. Here are some information on how to get started.
Essential weather monitoring tools
You need not get very sophisticated equipment in order to monitor the weather. Most weather stations are equipped with the following basics: a thermometer, barometer, wind vane, anemometer, rain gauge, and hydrometer. A thermometer measures the temperature, while a barometer measures air pressure. The wind vane and anemometer provide information about the wind, with the wind vane showing you direction and the anemometer indicating speed. A rain gauge measures the amount of precipitation or rainfall. Humidity, or the amount of water present in the air, is measured by a hydrometer. With these basic tools, you can get a lot of information about the weather and the world around you. You can also buy portable weather stations that combine all these tools into one device. Weather radios will also alert you on any upcoming emergencies or disasters.
Tips when buying weather forecast tools
Check the range and accuracy of the equipment you plan to buy. Each tool should be able to monitor a variety of conditions. For example, a wind vane should have a range of 0-360 degrees to really show the direction of the wind. Get equipment that are easy to set up and use. This is especially true for portable weather stations that contain all the essential weather monitoring tools. A good weather station should also be very durable and able to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Shop around online and read customer reviews. Note the comments on the accuracy and durability of the weather forecast tools. Also find out about the equipment’s warranty, if any.

There are steps to making your own weather station and improvised
weather instruments. But what's more important for you to learn as
much as you can about the weather, such as how it affects your life.
Here is a guide when making your own weather station:
Gather the materials needed for the weather instruments you'll use.
List down the steps and materials you'll use for the barometer, rain
gauge, thermometer, wind vane, and anemometer. Be sure to follow the
directions carefully.
Test the weather instruments you made.
See how the barometer can help you measure the air pressure and the
rain gauge for precipitation. For the temperature, use the
thermometer. Use the wind vane for wind direction and wind speed for
the anemometer. Take notes of the measurement.
Create a weather learning journal.
The weather learning journal should contain the measurements you've
had using the weather instruments. Also prepare questions about the
use of each weather instrument and what they tell you. Through the
weather learning journal, you can make conclusions on weather
forecast.

You don't have to be a psychic or a scientist to predict the weather.
Just look up and see how the clouds are forming. Clouds observation
can be your guide to weather forecasting.
Fair weather
Cirrocumulus clouds are white clouds at high altitude, from 1,500
feet to 45,00 feet. Though they are made of ice crystals, they
signal fair weather. Those high, thin, and wispy clouds are known as
cirrus clouds. They often indicate fair weather the same with those
fluffy cotton clouds known as cumulus clouds.
Rain and snow
Cirrostratus clouds are thin clouds that cover the sky. With these
clouds, there's a hint of the sun or moon, that are sometimes blocked
by other types of clouds. Thicker cirrostratus clouds can lead to
rain or snow. Unlike the cirrostratus clouds, stratocumulus clouds
don't cover the sky fully. The low, lumpy, gray clouds are seen in
patches or lined in rows. They can produce rain, but not at all
times. Nimbostratus clouds, on the other hand, are dark gray in
color and may indicate rain.
Storms
Altocumulus clouds are known as middle layer clouds that can lead to
thunderstorms when they form. If you see gray clouds with a hint of
blue, what you're seeing are the altostratus clouds that can help
predict storms. Meanwhile, stratus clouds are low layered. They can
lead to drizzles. Cumulonimbus clouds, however, can lead to
thunderstorms, hail, and possible tornadoes. These clouds come with
a flat base and an anvil top.

What the world needs today are precise and updated reports on the daily weather conditions of all countries. If such means are readily available in all countries around the globe, the safety of all people's lives and properties will no longer be an issue.
In the case of US, the Weatherbug of AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc. upholds the safety of the lives and properties of all US citizens by means of providing precise weather conditions, as well as relevant and updated weather reports. The weather station's live weather reports (whether the country will be having a hot or cold weather condition) are provided to its millions of American consumers through the use of mobile devices, handheld devices, and the Internet. Students, offices, and governments agencies in US are the major target consumers of Weatherbug. Its services are very in-demand since it's the sole live weather station available in the country.
In year 1993, WeatherBug declared its TV station partnership with ABC, FOX, CBS, and NBC. These local broadcast stations are now using the WeatherBug's weather services. The live weather reports from WeatherBug are seen in the stations' weather news updates and station sites. If other nations have a weather station like WeatherBug, difficulties of obtaining weather condition reports and updates will no longer be an issue.

The Philippines is one of the countries that usually use long names for their government agencies. For instance, the PAGASA or the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration. Phew, that is really long, huh? PAGASA is a government agency of the Republic of the Philippines that handles and studies the country's climate changes. The agency is the pioneer of excellence in operational hydrology, astronomy, meteorology, and other related sciences. It is the sole agency in the Philippines that has capabilities on forecasting, monsoons, typhoons, etc.
Sunday, May 13. 2007
Among the first-hand mission of Philippines's PAGASA is to give property and protection of the Filipinos' life against natural calamities, which could be due to inevitable instances of high seas, drought, floods, and typhoons. It also aims to use its scientific know-hows and resources to maintain the well being, safety, security, and improvement on the life quality of all people of the Philippines and its environment. So, when it comes to weather disturbances and daily climate changes in the Philippines, you now know which government agency to turn to.

A few years ago, I was in the Philippines to visit a Filipina friend. She lived in Valenzuela city. I stayed at her house for a few weeks and that was during the first two weeks of June. Unfortunately, that was the start of the rainy season in the country, so I wasn't able to enjoy the outdoor promises of the city. I wasn't that happy about the weather updates brought by PAGASA, since I think it is very unreliable and its weather announcements are really late. Further improvements on its public services should be considered by the agency.

Amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Lebanon, the yearly climate of Israel still continues. What's interesting in Israel, aside from its notable grievances for the Lebanese people, is its small land area yet very diverse climate. Travelers who have been to Israel claim that the best time to go to that country is between September to October and March to April or what the Israel locals would refer as the Wildflower season.
Monday, May 7. 2007
Well, as you can see, it's really not a good time to visit Israel these days, with all the bomb and conflict happenings with Lebanon. Hopefully, when situations cool off, you should try visit and enjoy the surroundings of the Negev desert after the summer season in Israel. If you visit desert sites in summer, it's better to see them early morning. During winters, the desert places of Israel can get really cold and quite damp.
Sunday, May 6. 2007
I hope that just like the fine season and climate of Israel, the conflicts and surging emotions of some Israelites would cool down. During the summer season in the country, tourists have a number of interesting activities to do in Israel. The country is also full of tourist attractions for tourists to discover and visit. Historical sites are also scattered across the country. If only the country's conflict with Lebanon would cease, the Israel is one very promising tourist destination.

The history of the Philippines include tragic disasters caused by inevitable calamities that struck the country. Typhoons are among the disastrous weather instances that brought the country massive destructions and thousands of dead people. I also heard that most Philippine regions are now flooded whenever the rainy season comes. Before, only the lower land areas were the only ones that had problems with rain floods. I could only assume that the country seems to be sinking every year.
Friday, May 4. 2007
The rainy season in the Philippines has not yet reached its peak, but the country was devastated by two tropical storms already. The first one is Florita that came through the country a couple of weeks ago. I heard from online friends that the said storm left a sad number of Filinos, who were reported missing and dead. Also, the country's flourished land was filled with flash floods. When Florita left the Philippine region, it then brought a stormy chaos in China -- leaving more than 500 locals dead.
Thursday, May 3. 2007
After Typhoon Florita, the Philippines was again struck by another powerful typhoon named "Glenda". It was headlined in CNN and other international TV news stations that the country experienced strong winds and heavy rains. Classes, some business establishments, and government offices receded operations. Again, it was sad to learn that there were regions in the country that were submerged under deep water areas. In a few more years, I wonder if the Philippines would still be visible after their rainy season is through.

We have done so much with advanced digital technology. We have sent men on the moon, cloned sheep, and are now planning to clone certain parts of the human body for medical purposes. But fast information access is not the only thing in which computers are used for. It is used for every bit of purpose we can think of, be it as a calculating machine, or even as a digital imaging solution. But now, scientists are working on a high-tech computer mainframe which could make weather forecasts almost 30 years in advance!
Tuesday, May 1. 2007
The super computer to make these advanced weather forecasts is being developed in Japan. Good old Japan, always thinking of ways and means to make good use of technology! The science ministry or something of this country is planning to make use of such a device which could aid us in our weather problems and shit. The powerful Earth Simulator, as it is called, could literally be tweaked by these Japanese geniuses so as to forecast the weather 30 years in advance. Quite something from digital technology, isn't it?
Monday, April 30. 2007
The functional Earth Simulator is the most powerful calculating machine on the planet. Or is it? I think some governments, ours included, probably has something down those underground laboratories of theirs which are twice as powerful as the Earth Simulator. But it's a good thing the Japanese government has thought of using this device to help solve the weather problems we've been having for the past few years or so. Probably due to global warming, don't you think? But with this good plan, we'll be having more than a fighting chance against natural disasters that aren't as natural as they were back then!
Sunday, April 29. 2007
Weather forecasts are getting more and more accurate with the developments on modern satellite technology and all, you know. But if it just isn't good news, people tend to shrug their shoulders and carry on with their lives. They don't think an accurate weather forecast would prevent any unseen damages to both their lives and their land! For instance, the worst damn drought in the history of Spain is seen to come this year. With this information, people could easily prepare to move their asses to other countries or conserve their damn water reserves!
Saturday, April 28. 2007
A long drought has been forecasted this year in Spain. We just don't know what any other global warming has in store for us, you know. But this drought is seen due to the depleted water reserves of this beautiful country. Yes, their water reserves are down. Compared to the prior years, that is. Some say it's due to the effects of global warming, but others are pointing the finger at the people themselves! They're all trying to make the people of Spain conserve the water coming from their taps at home and at their offices.
Friday, April 27. 2007
Spain's water reserves are down. This is why a long drought has been forecasted this year as well as the following years to come. While some countries have these inconsistent rains and floods, other parts of the world have depleted water reserves! Where's the damn water cycle our elementary teachers have taught us about?! I believe global warming is indeed fucking up the weather on all the areas of this planet. It's a good thing we have satellite technology and the internet, for these could easily provide us with necessary information to save lives and land, you know.
